The Department of Food Science and Technology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) continues to demonstrate its growing impact on Ghana’s food industry through the achievements of its faculty and alumni.

In a recent development, Miss Bridget Akosua Konadu, class of 2025, has been appointed as a Quality Assurance Officer at Quama Food Pro Ltd., a food manufacturing company founded by Dr. Eric Owusu Mensah, a faculty member in the Department of Food Science and Technology.

The announcement, shared by Dr. Owusu Mensah on the Department’s faculty platform, reflected both personal fulfillment and a broader commitment to graduate empowerment and job creation within the food industry.

“I am fulfilled to be part of the empowerment and also creating jobs for our alumni,” he noted while announcing the appointment.

The appointment highlights the important role that faculty-led entrepreneurship can play in strengthening industry-academia linkages and creating career pathways for young professionals. As Ghana’s food sector continues to expand, the demand for well-trained quality assurance professionals remains critical to ensuring food safety, regulatory compliance, and consumer confidence.

For the Department of Food Science and Technology, the achievement also reflects the practical and industry-oriented training provided to students throughout their academic journey. Through laboratory training, product development activities, internships, research, and exposure to food processing and quality management systems, graduates are increasingly being positioned to contribute meaningfully to the food industry immediately after graduation.

The success of Quama Food Pro Ltd. further demonstrates how expertise developed within academia can translate into enterprise development, innovation, and employment generation. Faculty initiatives that bridge teaching, research, and industry not only contribute to national development but also create opportunities for mentoring and supporting the next generation of food scientists and technologists.

The Department congratulates Miss Bridget Akosua Konadu on her appointment and commends Dr. Eric Owusu Mensah for his continued commitment to mentorship, entrepreneurship, and the advancement of Ghana’s food industry.

As the Department continues to strengthen collaborations between academia and industry, stories such as this serve as a reminder of the transformative impact of Food Science education in shaping careers, supporting innovation, and contributing to national development.
