Our Department is one of the best in the sub-region that offers comprehensive training in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in food sciences and technologies. These programmes are tailor-made to provide knowledge and skills prevailing in the job market in contemporary times.
Our guiding principle is summed up as food quality and safety our priority. Under this banner, we seek to design our Bachelor and Postgraduate programmes to fulfil the tenets of critical sustainable development goals bordering on hunger and good health.
Our Department sees food quality as the vital sensorial attributes whose standards are tailored to be regulated according to regulators. Our programmes are rooted in the basic sciences of food production, processing, food product development, packaging storage, and process engineering. Using all scientific tools available, we strive to ensure that the food on the table meets microbial, nutritional, and chemical safety standards to maintain healthy living.
In our Food Science and Technology programmes, we expect all graduates to have the requisite skills in search areas as; food chemistry, food microbiology, food product development and sensory evaluation, and food process engineering.
As humans, our food sources and diet become constantly exposed to environmental hazards that may lead to disease outcomes. Our graduates imbibe this crucial information in their sub-conscience during training and also when they enter the world to contribute their quota along the food value chain.
