Vision & Mission

To produce high calibre Food Science and Technology graduates who will be well equipped through the training they receive, to support the rapid changes in food industries and sustain the industrial and economic development of Ghana and Africa. This vision is pursued in par with core values of the University which are integrity, excellence, teamwork, discipline and dedication to work.

The Department has pursued its teaching and research programmes in recognition of the fact that the food industry in Ghana is still in its fledging state. Hence it is important that this programme is offered to train the needed manpower and expertise that will help the industry to keep pace with the accelerated economic development that will usher the country into middle-income status.

The Department selects courses that are aimed at offering the students a good understanding of the basic principles of Food Science and Technology and applying to the growing and dynamic needs of the society with respect to food preservation, processing and safety. According to the Education Standard for Degrees in Food Science of the Institute of Food Technologists, USA, the course content of any undergraduate food science syllabus should cover the following five categories: Food Chemistry and Analysis, Food Safety and Microbiology, Food Processing and Engineering, Applied Food Science, and Success Skills. The Food Science and Technology program in KNUST does not fall short of this standard.
