Hence it is important that this programme is offered to train the needed manpower and expertise that will help the industry to keep pace with the accelerated economic development that will usher the country into middle-income status.
The Department selects courses that are aimed at offering the students a good understanding of the basic principles of Food Science and Technology and applying to the growing and dynamic needs of the society with respect to food preservation, processing and safety. According to the Education Standard for Degrees in Food Science of the Institute of Food Technologists, USA, the course content of any undergraduate food science syllabus should cover the following five categories: Food Chemistry and Analysis, Food Safety and Microbiology, Food Processing and Engineering, Applied Food Science, and Success Skills. The Food Science and Technology program in KNUST does not fall short of this standard.
