The Department of Food Science and Technology, KNUST strengthen Partnership with KEMS Synergy Group Ltd, Kumasi
The Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology (Prof. Mrs. Faustina Wireko-Manu) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, together with the Internship Coordinator, Dr. Mrs Gloria Ankar-Brewoo, and members of the FST @ 20 committee (Dr. Eric Owusu Mensah and Dr. Leonard Desouza) paid an industrial visit to KEMS Synergy Group Ltd, Kumasi, Ghana.
The main purpose was to deepen the partnership between the two bodies, engage the owner (Mr. Eric Amankwah), and monitor the performance of the students who are under internship. Upon arrival, the founder of the company offered a warm reception and led the team to tour the premises. The factory has two main divisions, the beverage and natural spices, promoted under the Charlie brand name. The factory is hosted on a large piece of land with modern machinery for beverages and spices manufacturing. The head of the department expressed her heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the department for the immense opportunities and contributions offered to the department including finding placement of internship students.
The plans of activities to celebrate the 20 years of the department were discussed and Mr. Amankwah pledged the full support of his company. Mr. Amankwah is also a proud Alumnus of the department. The visit was fruitful and beneficial to both partners.
