MES Equipment Limited Donates Laboratory Reagents, Glassware, and Equipment to Support Teaching, Research, and Industry Services at KNUST
The Department of Food Science and Technology, KNUST, has received a generous donation of laboratory reagents, glassware, and small equipment valued at over GHS 80,000 from MES Equipment Limited. This significant contribution, facilitated by Dr. Nana Baah Pepra-Ameyaw, a lecturer in the Department who teaches Food Analysis at both undergraduate and graduate levels, aims to strengthen the Department’s capacity for teaching, research, and laboratory services.
The items were presented by Mr. Nii Dromo Yaotey, Stores and Supply Officer at MES Equipment Limited, on behalf of the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Linus Ahiekpor, whose longstanding commitment to advancing scientific education and laboratory development continues to make a national impact. The donation includes a variety of essential reagents, glassware, and small analytical instruments.

Receiving the items, Professor Leonard Amekudzi, Provost of the College of Science, expressed deep appreciation to MES Equipment Limited for their generosity and commitment to supporting higher education. He emphasized the importance of such partnerships between academia and industry in enhancing the quality of teaching and research at KNUST. “Collaborations like this are crucial in bridging the gap between industry and academia, fostering innovation, and equipping our students to solve real-world challenges,” he remarked.
Professor Faustina Wireko-Manu, Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, also expressed gratitude to MES Equipment Limited for their support, noting that the donation comes at a strategic time as the Department expands its laboratory infrastructure and services. “The Food Science Laboratory is accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), affirming our commitment to international standards of testing quality and competence. The donated items will help us maintain these standards while expanding our capacity to serve both academia and industry,” she said.
The Food Science Laboratory at KNUST serves a dual purpose by supporting hands-on teaching and research within the Department and providing analytical testing services to the local food and beverage industry. The laboratory also supports research activities for other departments within KNUST. Through its ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited systems, the lab provides reliable analyses in areas such as food composition, quality control, safety, and product development.

Also in attendance at the presentation was Professor Jacob Agbenorhevi, Associate Professor of Food Chemistry, who joined in commending MES Equipment Limited for their continued partnership with the Department. He emphasized that such collaborations are vital to the growth of applied science education and research in Ghana.
The Department of Food Science and Technology remains committed to promoting academic excellence, innovation, and industry relevance. This donation stands as an example of how strategic partnerships between academia and industry can drive sustainable growth, enhance research capabilities, and support Ghana’s transformation toward a resilient and competitive food system.
