A delegation from the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) paid a courtesy call on the Department of Food Science and Technology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The delegation, which included Mr. Thomas Asante (Principal Quality Systems Coordinator), Miss Sonia Tuffour (Senior Product Research and Development Officer) and Miss Belinda Ntow (KTP Associate), was introduced to the Head of Department (HoD) by Professor Jacob Agbenorhevi, Associate Professor/Academic Lead at the Department of Food Science and Technology, KNUST. The HoD (Prof. Faustina Dufie Wireko-Manu), enthusiastically welcomed the team, who were also alumni of the Department, to her office.

There were discussions about the ongoing Africa Agri-food Knowledge Transfer Partnership (AAKPT) collaborative project involving CPC, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, the University of Huddersfield, and KNUST. Professor Jacob Agbenorhevi leads the KNUST section of the project.The project seeks to extract pectin from okra for use as an emulsifier in chocolate production. The CPC delegation was at KNUST to review the extraction process and ensure compliance with international standards before introducing the method into the chocolate industry. The CPC team also supported the development of a HACCP plan for the pectin extraction process, aimed at strengthening quality assurance measures during the visit. Also present at the meeting were Dr. John-Lewis Zinia Zaukuu, publicity team representative for the Department.
