The Department of Food Science and Technology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is pleased to announce that its Food Science Laboratories have successfully completed re-accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standard for testing laboratories.

Following a comprehensive external assessment conducted by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the laboratories have been confirmed to continue meeting the highest international requirements for technical competence, quality management systems, and reliable testing outcomes. The renewal is accompanied by an updated scope of accreditation covering key chemical and microbiological food testing services

This re-accreditation affirms the laboratories’ ability to deliver accurate, traceable, and internationally accepted analytical results in accordance with globally recognized methods, including AOAC, ISO, and APHA standards. Accredited test parameters include pH, peroxide value, free fatty acid, total starch, aerobic plate count, coliforms, Escherichia coli, Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus spp., yeast and mold counts, and Salmonella detection across a wide range of agricultural produce, raw materials, and food products

In its closing communication, ANAB commended the KNUST Food Science team for successfully completing the assessment process and maintaining compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements, noting its commitment to continual improvement and quality assurance

Speaking on the achievement, the laboratory leadership reaffirmed the Department’s dedication to supporting industry, regulatory agencies, researchers, SMEs, and development partners with credible laboratory services that underpin food safety, quality assurance, product development, and regulatory compliance in Ghana and the wider sub-region.

The Department extends its sincere appreciation to its industry partners, collaborators, regulatory bodies, and clients for their continued trust and support. This milestone reinforces KNUST’s position as a leading center of excellence in food science research, testing, and innovation.
