KNUST holds Maiden Asante Food Festival to celebrate Otumfuo’s 20th Reign i

The Department of Food Science and Technology under the auspices of the KNUST Chancellor’s Week Committee , organized a food exhibition event dubbed “Asante Food Festival” to celebrate the 20 year reign of Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.  The first of its kind, the event was held on Wednesday, 17th April, 2019 under the theme, “Promoting Our Culture, Innovation and Technology: 20 Years of Otumfuo’s Dynamism”.

The Asante Food Festival was aimed at celebrating and promoting the diverse food heritage and culture of the Asantes. Over twenty-three (23) indigenous Asante soups, one-pot meals with the likes of akankyie, aprapransa, mpotompoto, nuhuu, adibi, among several other typical and rare traditional foods and spices were exhibited. Baffour Agyei Fosu Twitwiakwa (Otumfuo's Anantahene) commended the Department for the grand display. Members of faculty educated students, staff and the general public on the socioeconomic and nutritional importance of the very typical and rare traditional Ashanti dishes displayed. It was eventful as most participants’ had opportunity to taste rare Asante delicacies.
